Here's my verison of Bruce Rozenbilt's µ Follower Pre Amp from Beginner's Guide To Tube Audio Design.

I assembled the amp out of cost effective components for the construction and assembly practice. It was a fun project with satisfying results. I highly recommend it for the first time builder. Its sonud is remarkable good considering I only spent ~$170 on the components.

This was the first project I used the NEMA GPO-3 red fiberglass board and turrets to facilitate the point to point wiring. The fiberglass board is electrical grade built to MIL and IEC specs. I mounted it perpendicular to the top using circuit board mounting brackets. It helps to maximize the available space and naturally segregates the AC and DC amp circuits. The AC power supply is mounted in one area and the DC circuits and tubes are in another.

It amazing how few components are needed to build this pre amp. The theory of how and why it works is in Bruce Rozenbilt”s book BEGINNER'S GUIDE TO TUBE AUIDO DESIGN. Another good source of information about the µ follower is Morgan Jones’Valve Amplifiers.

The valve circuit is a common cathode amplifier, but with an active load. The upper valve is a constant current source or active load and the lower valve is the cathode follower. The advantage of this pre amp aside from its simplicity is its low distortion. If you’re looking to minimize the components in your signal path this amp is definitely a candidate.

In my version of it I didn't use the tape monitoring input or output jacks.
