The Black Beast Assembly Drawing Snap Shot

This is a snap shot of the assembly drawings I made from a CAD program. Transcendent Sound provides an assembly manual based on a 17 X 17 inch chassis. I used a Hammond 17 X 14 X 3 inch chassis and generated a set of build drawings to verify and fit the components into the Hammond chassis.

I deviated from the TS plans and added buses for input drive signals and the outputs to the speaker. For the connections from the output bus to the speaker terminal I used strained 10 gage wire. I wanted to us the same size wire for the speaker negative connections, but I didn't have any black 10 gage wire, but I did have some black 8 gage left over from my Rodeo amp installation so I used it. For the output tube connection point to point I used 18 gage solid wires. I used tinned strained 14 gage wire for the 120 VAC power. The signal caps are matched North Creek Music System film and foil.

The meter on the left is the input signal from a freq generator set for a sine wave at 1k Hz and 1.172 VAC. The right meter is the amp output reading 34.94 VAC (true RMS). These values are just befor clippiing and calculates to a 152 Watt output for a gain of ~29 db.

For the test load I used a ARCOL HS100 8R F, 100 Watt 8 ohm resistor with a CPU cooler attached to the top of the case. Even with the cooling fan I can't leave the amp at full power due to the heat generated. One of these days I'll mount the resistor on a heatsink plate.
